Tom Bullough for the Guardian

The thing about shooting in Wales is…….

Wales isn't known for its predictable weather.

Not the first or last time it will be mentioned.

This is Tom Bullough.

Tom is a novelist who is passionate about the environment, and Wales, and has fed that passion into a book called Sarn Helen.

I photographed Tom as a commission from the Guardian Newspaper.

The job Sounds pretty straightforward.

Tom / the environment / Brecon Beacons, Wales

What could go wrong?

Well, Rain went wrong. Lots of damn Rain.

So we sit. Wait. Wait Sit. Wait.

Rain stops and I leap into action like an assistant-less camera-wielding loony.

We have that 10 mins of sun that the welsh Gods of Brycheiniog have gifted us.

They have also gifted us with the blackest sky ever known.

Shoot. Shoot. Shoot.

And…

Breathe.

Chat casually to Tom.

Here comes the Rain.

Gather lights. Cameras and 8 sandbags.

Home. Tea. Hob nobs.

Until next time.
